Description

Applications for ultra-strength PVC tarps

Our ultra-strength 900GSM PVC Tarps offer exceptional durability and comprehensive elemental protection, ensuring the safety and integrity of goods, equipment and work environments in Australia’s diverse and demanding industrial conditions.

Utilised by freight handlers/couriers, truck drivers, construction and building trades, builders and roofers, scaffolders, trades and contractors, mining and exploration teams, oil and gas workers, farmers, shipbuilders and boat maintenance crew.

  • Truck covers (protect cargo from weather and secure loads during transit).
  • For flatbed, tipper and general freight trucks (suitable for side curtains (tautliners), roll-over tarps and front-to-rear systems).
  • Temporary roof covers during construction or storm repairs.
  • Cover skips, contain demolition debris and manage waste at collection or processing sites for full weather protection.
  • Protect building materials and unfinished structures from rain, sun, and wind.
  • Enclose scaffolding to provide robust weather protection and containment.
  • Cover construction equipment, create heavy-duty temporary shelters or use as exceptionally durable groundsheets.
  • Cover and protect heavy machinery and exploration sites in harsh, remote and exposed environments.
  • Serve as resilient environmental barriers and provide critical equipment protection for offshore platforms.
  • Cover hay bales, grain stockpiles (bunker covers) and create long-lasting temporary animal shelters.
  • Protect raw materials, finished products, and create durable partitions within industrial spaces.
  • Offer temporary shelters, stall coverings and ground protection at outdoor events against all weather.

This heavy-duty 900GSM PVC coated tarpaulin is ideal for transport and logistics, building and construction, mining and resources, energy sectors, farming and agriculture, manufacturing and industrial plants, waste management, the marine industry, events hire companies, and the demolition sector.

What is a Panama Weave?

A Panama weave is a type of basketweave. Instead of single threads crossing over and under each other like in a basic plain weave (one thread over, one thread under), in a Panama Weave two threads together go over two other threads, then under the next two threads, and so on. This creates a more pronounced, slightly coarser and more textured appearance, with a visible square-like or rectangular pattern.

When used in industrial fabrics like heavy-duty tarps, the Panama weave offers:

  • Higher strength and Tear Resistance: If a tear starts, it tends to encounter a thicker bundle of yarns (the grouped threads), which can help to stop the tear from propagating easily.
  • Good Tensile Strength: The structure can handle high pulling forces. When combined with “high-tenacity” yarns (yarns specifically engineered for high strength and low stretch), this creates a very robust base fabric.
  • Dimensional Stability: Panama weaves tend to be quite stable and resist stretching or distorting out of shape, which is important for a tarp that needs to maintain its form under tension or load.
  • Durability and Abrasion Resistance: The relatively flat surface created by the grouped yarns (compared to some more textured weaves) and the inherent strength of the structure can contribute to good abrasion resistance, especially once coated.
  • Good Base for Coating: The structure of a Panama weave can provide a good, stable substrate for applying coatings (PVC). The coating adheres well, creating a continuous waterproof and weather-resistant surface. The weave provides the underlying strength and reinforcement for this coating.
  • Flexibility and Drape (relative to strength): While very strong, a Panama weave can still offer a degree of flexibility that is important for tarps that need to be handled, folded, and secured over uneven shapes.

Using a high-tenacity Panama weave as the base cloth (such as in our Ultra-Strength 900GSM PVC Tarp) provides a foundation of excellent strength, tear resistance and stability, which is then enhanced by the protective PVC coating. This combination is what makes it suitable for “the toughest of industrial applications!”
