Manufacturing Coverlight: a true blackout blind

Coverlight blinds are custom-made and tailored to the dimensions of specific window sizes, for that perfect fit and maximum effectiveness. Each blind is made-to-measure and carefully manufactured to ensure a “gap-free” fit.

Here we detail key steps of our manufacturing process.

Light-Tight Side Rails

Coverlight blinds utilize a precision side-track system designed for total light exclusion. Rather than hanging freely, the fabric sits within side rails lined with high-density fur seals. This soft-contact brush technology “cradles” the fabric, creating a light-tight barrier that prevents glow from creeping around the edges. This ensures a 100% blockout experience while allowing the fabric to glide silently and smoothly during operation.

Precision fabric cutting

Coverlight blinds feature a specialised, multi-layer foamed backed, 100% blockout fabric called “Evolution” fabric. Evolution is PVC and lead free, offering superior insulation, noise absorption, and mold and mildew resistance while remaining easy to clean. Read more about Evolution Fabric here.

During manufacturing, the fabric is processed on advanced automated cutting tables and precision-engineered to your custom measurements. Utilizing high-tech plotter technology allows for millimetre precision, ensuring every blind is “millimetre perfect”. This level of accuracy is vital to achieving a gap-free fit and a smooth, snag-free operation within the track system.

Hardware and aluminium extrusion

Unlike generic imported blinds, Coverlight features quality parts and construction for optimised performance, extended lifespan and long-term durability.

Headbox and frame

The headbox is housed in a cassette (to completely hide the roller tube) and both the headbox and frame are discrete and non-intrusive. The headbox and side rails are cut slightly smaller than the window size to ensure a perfect fit, allowing our light seal to ensure a gap free fit.

The headbox and side channels are powder-coated to match, to your preferred colour.

Motorisation and assembly

Coverlight is available in a manual soft-touch spring operation system (stop the blind exactly where you leave it) or motorised operation (battery-operated or hardwired options). Motorised options are the most popular and can be integrated into smart home systems for remote or voice control convenience.

For assembly, our technicians will prepare the aluminium roller tube by cutting it to size and inserting the tubular motor into the roller tube. For the battery version, this includes a lithium-ion battery unit. The fabric is then attached to the tube and the entire assembly is inserted into the headbox.

Quality control and testing

Before leaving the factory, Coverlight blinds undergo a final check to ensure all aspects of operation and aesthetics are of the highest quality that the brand is known for.

  • Fabric inspection: The team checks for any frame and fabric imperfections (instantly impacts light blocking).
  • Packaging: The blinds feature long aluminium tracks and delicate fabrics so they are safely (and heavily) packaged to prevent bending during transport across Melbourne (or shipping across Australia).

Our local manufacturing process guarantees high quality standards and also reduces lead time for installation.
